He does not explain what he means, but he seems to be using a neuroscientific definition of persistence. This would mean making sure your communication (often images) stay in working memory long enough and vividly enough to make it into long-term memory. In the brain that work of getting things from working memory into long-term memory is coordinated to a large degree by the hippocampus. But we can make that work easier for the hippocampus if we engage the emotions. This is because it has been shown that our most vivid and persistent memories are those associated with basic emotions (fear, anger, happiness, etc.). His last three points about clarity/interactivity/persistence relate directly to his earlier quick and partial tour of brain anatomy (ventral stream/dorsal stream/limbic system).
