Yes Bob, it is the same question I faced when I found this site. However, when I got engaged with a revision project of a translation that is over a century old (Bible in Nias language), I faced many textual differences to the text model (Indonesian Formal Translation). And this issue is enhanced by not having any notes whatsoever about what text is the translation based. That issue forced me to at least provide a glimpse look to the idea of textual criticism to the translation team. So far, these manuscripts help the team to understand and imagine briefly how the text of the UBS' GNT was composed. At the same time, it also helps me (not always of course) to find which texts were being used in their old Bible. The whole point of course to consciously make a decision when textual differences I mentioned earlier are found. That's so far what I found useful from this website. Of course it would be a more significant help for those NT scholars who wants to do textual research but doesn't have a physical access to the text.
