Is Elohim a title? I thought it was just a noun like God / god.

Hmm, you might be right. The point I am trying to make is that Elohim/God corresponds to human (is that a title for human beings, or maybe just a noun again?), while Adonai/Lord corresponds to a title of respect (for humans again Adonai, but now in the sense of "sir"), and finally YHWH corresponds to personal names like Rob or Bob. So if we have three categories (noun/title/name) instead of two (title/name), it works the same for the purposes I had in mind. In any case, I have edited the post and changed that entry to "marker of identity."
