CHAPITRE II

En effet, l'expression fLOV GKRPPH s'est vu attribuer la rputation d'tre non seulement nigmatique mais aussi importante pour l'ensemble de l'tude biblique comme l'affirme M. Back: "The Son of Man Problem in the Gospels is one of the most perplexing and challenging in the whole field of Biblical Theology"24. Par ailleurs il suffit d'voquer 24 M. BLACK, The Son of Man Problem in recent Research and Debate, in BJRL 45 (1962/63) 305318, p. 305; The Son of Man' in the Old Biblical Literature, in ExpT 60 (1948/49) 11-15, p.11: "Within the Old Testament and the Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament no theological conception is more characteristic than that of Son of Man'"; voir aussi d'autres exgtes: J. MORGENSTERN, The Son of Man of Daniel 7,13f. A New Interpretation, in JBL 80 (1961) 65-77, p. 65: "Almost no problem of biblical science has challenged scholars more than that of the correct interpretation of Dan 7,13f., and especially of the figure of the son of man' therein"; F.H. BORSCH, The Son of Man in Myth and History, London, 1967, p. 15.16: "The insistent problem of the meaning of the designation Son of Man has plagued and vexed New Testament scholars ever since higher criticism began (...). The Son of Man problem cannot justifiably be set aside, because the Son of Man is at the very centre of the Gospel record"; J.B. CORTES - F.M. GATTI, The Son of Man or the Son of Adam, in Bib 49 (1968) 457-502, p. 457: "No question in the interpretation of the Gospels appears to be more complex and puzzling than the meaning of the expression Son of Man'"; C. SMITH, The Son of Man' in Ugaritic, in CBQ 45 (1983) 59-60, p. 59: "The Quest to understand the `Son of Man' of Ezechiel, Daniel, and the NT has entered a new stage within the last century"; B. A Fresh Examination of the Son of Man Sayings in the Gospels in the Light of Recent Research, London, 1983, p. 1.2: "The Son of Man problem is the great centre of debate in New Testament studies of the twentieth century (...); the Son of Man has been crucial to the discussion of Christology this century"; E. COTHENET, Fils de l'homme, in P. POUPARD (dir.), Dictionnaire des religions I, Paris, 1984, 697-699, p. 697: "Le titre Fils de l'homme (en grec o ios tou anthropou) que l'on retrouve si souvent dans les quatre vangiles sur les lvres de Jsus constitue

Some Approaches to the Son of Man Problem in Recent Scholarship, in JSNT 42 (1991) 17-43, p. 17: "The Son of Man problem continues to fox New Testament Scholars, and recent work shows a massive variety of approaches and results"; U. LUZ, The Son of Man in Matthew - Heavenly Judge or Human Christ, in JSNT 48 (1992) 3-21, p. 3: "The Son of Man is still a riddle"; I.H. MARSHALL, The Synoptic Son of Man' Sayings in the Light of Linguistic Study, in T.E. SCHMIDT & M. SILVA (ds), To tell the Mystery. Essays on New Testament Eschatology in Honour of R.H. Gundry (JSNT SS, 100), Sheffield, 1994, 72-94, p.72: "The topic of the Son of man continues to be one of the most important in contemporary study of the Gospels". 25 En effet, pendant que R. Leivestad traite le Fils de l'homme apocalyptique d'un fantme thologique (Der Apokalyptische Menschensohn ein theologisches Phantom, in ASTI 6 [1968] 49105) et titre sur sa sortie (Exit the Apocalyptic Son of Man, in NTS 18 [1971/72] 1-22), B. Lindars plaide pour son retour (Re-enter the Apocalyptic Son of Man, in NTS 22 [1975/76] 52-72). Dans sa recension de N. PERRIN, Rediscovering the Teaching of Jesus, in Deutsche Literaturzeitung 89 (1968) 784, P. Winter crit: "The place of origin of the [Son of Man] myth is not to be sought in Iran, or Judea or even in Ugarit, but in German Universities". Opinion reprise sous une autre forme par G. Vermes, Jesus the Jew, London, 1973, p. 188: "It should have also been obvious that the onus of proof that the son of man' is a title lies squarely on the shoulders of the theologians". Et B. Lindars affirme sans ambages: "I believe that the views based upon the supposed currency of the Son of Man as an apocalyptic title, which have held the field, particularly in German scholarship, for the greater part of this century, can no longer be sustained" (B. LINDARS, Jesus Son of Man, pp. ix. 8). Puis il poursuit: "The irony of this is that the idea that there was a myth of the Son of Man in the time of Christ itself turns out to be a myth, created, not by the thinkers of New Testament times, but by modern critical scholarship" (ibid, p. 8). HOOKER, Is the Son of Man Problem Really insoluble? in E. BEST & R.M. WILSON (ds.), Text and Interpretation: Studies in the New Testament Presented to Matthew Black, Cambridge, 1979, 155-168, p. 155. SMALLEY dans son article The Johannine Son of Man Sayings, in NTS 15 (1969) 278-301, p. 278: "To survey the extensive territory occupied by the Son of Man debate is, no doubt like Moses on Pisgah, to be impressed if not overwhelmed. The formal and theological issues are complex, the literature is immense and the major questions continue to be differently answered as seemingly to remain unresolved". FS J.C. Hurt (JSNT SS, 86), Sheffield, 1993, 282-291, p. 282. Sous la note 3, l'auteur explique: "As many scholars have pointed out, the son of man debate touches on issues sach

Dann msste der griechische Ausdruck lauten: houtos ho huios tou anthrpou". 35 Ibid., pp. 85.95; O. WALKER, The Son of Man: Some Recent Developments, in CBQ 45 (1983) 586-604, p. 602: "Relatively speaking, the Son of Man Christology developed rather late within the exegetical tradition of the early church, and it apparently developed among Greek-speaking, not Aramaic-speaking, Christians".
