Trustworthy Poetic Translation
I’m conducting a survey on several poetic versions of two small psalms (a total of nine verses) to analyze their trustworthiness. This is research work for my dissertation. Would you help me?
If you are a trained translator with some experience, and would like to request a copy of the survey, contact me at milton.watt@sim.org, and I will send you a copy. The survey should take about half an hour (or more, if you choose to do a lot of reflecting and exegetical digging).
My definition of trustworthiness in translating is “being faithful to the original text and loyal to the original author in the judgment of an experienced trained translator, while being true to a skopos (stated purpose) which emphasizes faithfulness and loyalty.”
My assumption is that the person who can best assess trustworthiness for a translation is an experienced trained translator who has knowledge of applied translation principles and who has a strong familiarity with the original text.
Write me, if this survey interests you.

In Jerusalem at Home for Bible Translators, teaching 8 francophone men 7 of 8 previously trained in translation principles, at the end of the next 2 weeks they will be trained in Hebrew poetry (as far as we will be able to go in that time). Let me know if you want to do anything in French. I could offer 1-2 hours of their time. Warm greetings, L
