Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting - San Diego
Translating Alterity
11/24/2014
9:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Room: Indigo Ballroom A (Level 2 (Indigo)) - Hilton Bayfront (HB)
Theme: Altering Translation
This special session will explore questions of alterity and process in translation, inspired by Michael Cronin's 2013 Translation in the Digital Age. Blending translation theory, media studies and materialist cultural analysis, Cronin suggests we consider the present Digital Age as the Age of Translation, characterized by an ‘interaction society of translators’ participating in the 'intransitive excess' of translation. This fast-paced participatory session will offer a series of short (5 minute) experiments stimulated by Cronin’s work as seeds for extended discussion.
Sponsored by The Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship at American Bible Society .
