I have wanted access to my Paratext projects often in non-work situations, like church or family events where I talk to people about Bible stuff. Now that its available to me, I plan on leaving my computer running more often so I can use this feature. Of course, as your question hints, that is a bit cumbersome. So I'd prefer a Paratext iPhone app (or even web-based Paratext with an option for mobile viewing), but this will work until then. Also, sometimes I have to go to places where I'm worried about a fancy new Mac getting stolen. Provided there's a decent internet connection, this would allow me to take a cheaper tablet and use Paratext remotely.
For church or family events where you want to show your translation text, maybe it would be as easy to print out a Print Draft and copy the PDF to your phone, or use the Pathway tool to make an epub or other version you can show on your phone, and not have to connect remotely to Paratext on your computer. SIL Pathway tool: http://pathway.sil.org/
Glad to know that's an option, but for this issue I think remote connect is a simpler (less work for me) solution. We update regularly so making new PDFs or ePubs everyday would be a time consumer. Sometimes I'm not just looking for a translation but also for the series of comments flagged on a particular verse. We also regularly update our Spanish text and I would refer to that often. And I have recently used the remote connect to work in Paratext on an iPad. Its not as clean as I would like it to be, but it works. Now I can use Paratext while waiting in the doctor's office. But thanks for the info on the tool. Sounds like I could definitely use it.
I haven´t used a remote app for Paratext but for other programs. The problem I always had is the usual delay you experience when using the remote app to connect to your computer. Does that happened to you using Paratext from your iPhone?
Daniel, It could be a connectivity issue... Anyways: A Paratext App for iPad and Smart Phones it doesn't sound crazy at all... Un abrazo hermano!
a paratext app for Ipad and smart phones... that would be one of my dreams come true! Should we send this wish on the paratext 'make a suggestion' feature?
