Newsweek's Article On The Bible

I was about to post this last night and then I decided not to... but today after reading the comments and comments on it I am posting it just to have a discussion (if you are willing to) about the claims of the author that translation is impossible:
"No television preacher has ever read the Bible. Neither has any evangelical politician. Neither has the pope. Neither have I. And neither have you. At best, we've all read a bad translation—a translation of translations of translations of hand-copied copies of copies of copies of copies, and on and on, hundreds of times." (quoting the article)
