Jim Hanson Performance of Paul
This performance is noteworthy for:
a. The metanarrative through which a criticism is given to the whole present view on Paul.
b. The performance is based on the idea that Luke-Acts has no correlation however with the historical Paul or the Paul of the letters.
c. The performance is done in an agitated tone of voice. It is a man who is going to to die and wants to set his record straight.
d, Through the narrative biblical texts are expressed as part of the discourse.
e. Performance is used here to teach on socio-cultural background of Paul';s world, the distance between the modern church goer and Paul , while at the same time show the role of hermeneutical approaches to Paul. that is that each person and the audience has constructed a "Paul". Of course, Hanson's own Paul is also a construction. Performance is always a reconstruction even when it seems to deconstruct. And maybe its more endearing and cardinal feature is exactly the "reconstruction" bit!!!
