Why is Bible Translation Vulnerable?

This is what strikes me at the end of the FOBAI meeting, which was held on the theme of The Vulnerability of Bible Translation. I've been mulling over some ideas around this topic for a long time, it seems, but only now have been able to verbalize this conclusion. Here's where I am today:

Bible Translation is vulnerable because less-than-perfect people are trying to communicate to other less-than-perfect people the message of the Perfect God, which both the communicator and the recipient understand with less-than-perfect knowledge.

Even so, the Perfect God is using this less-than-perfect effort to transform lives daily around the world. And that is astounding! While we profess less-than-perfection, and know we will never get there in this life, we press on to do the best we can.
