Translation of Biblical Poetry in the Spanish Golden Age
These last weeks I’ve been inmerse in the study of Hebrew poetry. So far (let me repeat that: so far, I may be wrong and please tell me if it is so) I’ve found that the conversation has not made much progress in the last 20 years. And, while there is much theory on the topic of Biblical poetry not much of that is used in translation. What I mean is that the studies on the topic have been used to understand but not in using the structure of the poetry of the receptor language. So, I started looking for cases where the translators use poetry in their languages when they translate Psalms, Proverbs and others
Looking for cases, I just found a translation of a certain Count Don Bernardino de Arbollena, that paraphrased the Psalms and Job into aurean poetry. Here is the whole book with Psalms, Job and Lamentations: Selva Sagrada. Enjoy.
