2015 Bible Translation Statistics infographic
Out of nearly 7,000 languages in use on the planet nearly 3,000 languages now have at least one book of the Bible, the rest don’t. So how many languages still need scripture?
The answer involves a lot more than simple mathematics. At one level languages don't need scripture. People need scripture. Some languages have a decreasing number of speakers. Some speakers have an increasing fluency in multiple languages. Those that already have some scripture in a language that speaks deeply to them may need more.
Wycliffe Global Alliance now has a new info graphic of the latest statistics on Bible Translation progress. Part of my job has been to compile and explain the annual figures, included in the graphic and put together the FAQs at wycliffe.net/statistics that go deeper into what some of the numbers mean and what they don't.
