Senior Translation Consultant
Division/Department: Scripture Translation Location of office: Toronto, ON

Job Summary: The incumbent will provide administrative support to the Director of Scripture Translation in the coordination and execution of Scripture translation projects. The incumbent will serve as senior Old Testament translation consultant, and be responsible for final approval of all Scripture versions/formats published by the Canadian Bible Society (CBS).

The scope of responsibilities includes, but is not limited to:
1. Organize, facilitate, serve and monitor Bible Translation projects within and outside of Canada where CBS plays an active role.
2. Provide mentoring, training, and exegetical / technical assistance to translation teams in the field.
3. Provide mentoring for junior translation consultants in the employ of CBS.
4. Check (including coordinating and supervising checking) and approve drafted Scripture portions for publication.
5. Coordinate and nurture partner relations for Bible Translation projects.
6. Advise church and community partners, as requested, on all aspects of translation project planning and execution.
7. Provide administrative support to the Director of Scripture Translation.

Qualifications:
1. A strong commitment to the Christian faith and a passion for the Bible cause.
2. Excellent communication and time management skills.
3. PhD in Biblical Studies / Linguistics / Exegesis.
4. Skill in both Koine Greek and Biblical Hebrew (both Biblical Languages required), with primary focus on Old Testament and Hebrew.
5. Fluency in spoken and written English (required) and French (an asset).
6. Strong project management skills and experience.
7. Strong interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy.
8. Familiarity with Algonquian or Inuit language families is an asset.
9. 5-10 years’ experience checking scripture in a Bible Translation agency using Paratext.
10. Flexible, able to accept change and thrive in an ever-changing environment.
11. Team player who seeks to do what is needed to support the success of the team.
12. Ability to lead and serve a project/program and facilitate it with minimal direction.
