A couple years ago I published a review of this book (Text, Image, and Otherness in Children's Bibles: What is in the Picture?) for The Bible Translator (The Bible Translator 65 [2014]: 104-107). At the end of that review I concluded this book provides "an important collection of essays that should be consulted not only by all those interested in children’s Bibles and Bible picture books, but also by all those interested in what happens when biblical texts are 'translated' or adapted to other kinds of media."

Now I am happy to see that the e-book version of this book is one of many made available for free "for persons in countries with a per capita GDP that is substantially lower than the average per capita GDP of the United States and the European Union." The list of those countries may be found here: SBL ICI Countries.

If you are in one of those countries you can access the book (and many other valuable books) for free by using this link - Semeia Studies and then scrolling down until you find the links to PDFs of the book (you can download it as one PDF or as several if the single file is too large for your internet connection).

I work with children's images for the Bible Story Video Templates we create for translation teams so had an interest in the book. The introduction indicates some very liberal thinking regarding the Scriptures...

You will certainly find very diverse ways of thinking about Scripture (the authors don't all share the same perspectives), including some very critical/liberal ways. But I often find I learn some of the most important things from people who have different perspectives from my own. And this book has very important observations about and reflections on what happens when people prepare books for children, especially how the use of images or the elimination of tensions may distort perceptions of the Bible in ways that endure in the minds of adults.
