When someone promises "faster, better, cheaper," I am always skeptical. I usually reply, "choose two." But neither would I have us return to the days before the airplane and automobile, much less the cell phone. So I would say we should test the method and have some comparisons made of differently-produced translations with real test audiences. It should become clear fairly quickly if the new methodology works or not. Of course computer-based (or aided) translation is bound to get better as time goes by, so we need to keep our minds open to new methods and technology.

A couple of quick comments on the video: 1. the additional text (for children) of "pray that God will protect me," while a possible implicature, is not the only possible one. Maybe the fasting was for the outcome of Esther's intended intervention, rather than for her own safety. 2. Tagalog is a pretty easy place to start, for various reasons.

Robert Bascom Personally, I would be very careful to use "better" in the description, especially we don't know about what version to be compared with. The translation of making one of the implications explicit is always risky, but sometime it is inevitable in manual or CABT. However, CABT may probably develop a more coherent/consistent scriptural theme inthe translation than project with more than one translator depending on different exegetical sources.
The software have been used to generated scriptural texts in a few other languages: http://alltheword.org/our-early-experiments/

AllTheWord.org is a humble risky starting with expectation of criticism especially from the traditional BT practitioners Thank you for your openness and comment on the video.
