Why do projects so often struggle to finish?

Most translators have no future after the projects and when a project finishes they are dropped like hot potatoes.  Maybe it should be made compulsory for agencies to invest in helping translators find jobs afterwards, especially because translators often invest many years in a project.

That's obviously a great model but how can they fund such a thing? For us, funders only ever fund for 2-3 yrs at a time, so there can be no guarantee of ongoing training or employment beyond the medium-term. When a NT project is finished, translators are simply dropped (aka made redundant) and expected to persuade their churches to organise an OT project if they want further employment. Naturally, translators are therefore loath to finish NTs because they know it means end of employment for them, and back to the fields.
