New MA in Bible Translation - San Pelligrino, inc. credits from JCBT
Since 2001 there has been an active collaboration between the Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship at the American Bible Society and the San Pellegrino Institute in Italy. As a result of this collaboration, the Nida Institute became one of the founding members of the Fondazione Unicampus San Pellegrino. This resulted in the development of the Nida School for Translation Studies. In those days the focus was primarily on Translation Studies as an academic pursuit.
In 2013 the United Bible Societies joined this collaboration, which led to the foundation of the Nida School for Bible Translation (NSBT), targeting translation consultants in training. Since that time the NSBT has played an important role in UBS’s training curriculum for consultants. Between 2013 and 2021 54 translation consultants graduated. We have also provided training to students from other academic institutions, such as the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
For many years we have been pursuing the possibility to provide our trainees with a recognized accreditation at the Master’s level. We have been pursuing this for several years and are proud to announce that FUSP has very recently received formal accreditation from the Italian Ministry of University for our Master’s program in Bible Translation, which will take off in the next academic year.
We will be working with all NSBT graduates who are interested, to evaluate the courses that they have taken in the past years and determine whether they are in possession of the credits needed for their MA degree. If that is not yet the case, we will work with them to ensure that they have the opportunity to take the courses that are required. In addition to the necessary coursework all students are required to write an MA thesis in order to be eligible for the degree.
We are delighted to announce that credits earned during the yearly semester training at the Jerusalem Center of Bible Translation, which takes place under the responsibility of the Nida Institute, will also be recognized.
Prof. Dr. Stefano Arduini (FUSP)
