Job opening: Visual Exegete
Title**: Visual Exegete**
Reports to: Layer by Layer Project Manager
Cambridge Digital Bible Research is a non-profit organisation that brings scholarly excellence to resources for Bible translation. In bridging the gap between scholars and translators, we focus on visual materials that communicate effectively and efficiently. Our materials will be used by Bible translators across the globe, so the quality of both exegetical content and visual communication is paramount.
General Description:
The Visual Exegete will join our Core Team producing a fine-grained exegesis of each psalm presented visually, following our Creator Guidelines (such as these). The method includes background research using standard exegetical tools, as well as extensive interaction with our entire Core Team as we review each other’s work. All Core Team members will collaborate to ensure consistency of both quality and formatting of each visualisation. The responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive and may change as need arises.
The Visual Exegete will be a full-time employee. Compensation will be based on the combination of academic qualifications, skill level and experience. All work is done remotely, with travel to retreats on a quarterly to annual basis for the entire organisation. Meetings are by Zoom. The employee provides a workspace and CDBR provides all equipment. Travel may be required for workshops, conferences and other occasions.
Responsibilities:
-
Perform careful, methodical exegetical analyses of the psalms according to our Creator Guidelines
-
Create visual diagrams presenting the results of this analysis, following the Creator Guidelines
-
Regularly evaluate the Creator Guidelines, recommending changes as needed
-
Cooperate with the full Core team to review and revise materials
-
Engage in team meetings for project planning and community building
-
Participate in ongoing professional development (currently, reviewing one scholarly work per quarter)
Qualifications and requirements:
- Masters-level or better Hebrew skills, with a PhD very helpful but not required
- Demonstrated strong interest in linguistics and exegesis, and prepared to read and research to develop skills
- Interdisciplinary in interests
- Facility with or willingness to learn Miro (for materials development), our forum (community discussion) and ClickUp (project management)
- Committed to both our core values and community culture statement
Application deadline is 30 September 2022 with anticipated start date of 1 November 2022. Please send cover letter and CV to hr@cdbr.org. The application process consists of an introductory interview, an exercise (to model the work that would be done) and a final interview with members of the core team. After the exercise writing samples may also be requested.
