Hebrew and Land of the Bible programs in Israel
Hebrew and Land of the Bible Semester Program
Since 1994, Jerusalem Center for Bible Translators has been offering training in Hebrew and Land of the Bible to MTTs and consultants. We now offer a five month program that employs a balance of communicative and traditional approaches to learning Biblical Hebrew. The program is accredited by Hebrew University in Jerusalem’s Rothberg International School (https://overseas.huji.ac.il/academics/summer-and-short-term-programs/faculty-led/special-programs/spring-semester-program-bible-translators/). Two months online followed by three months in Israel includes three months of living Biblical Hebrew, as well as high-level courses in Reading Texts, Semantics, Discourse Analysis, and Poetry. The program also includes a semester course on Historical Geography of the Land of the Bible with field trips to most of the major biblical sites in the Land. NT2OT – Training for NT-experienced consultants in Hebrew and OT Translation
Since 2016, Seed Company, in partnership with Jerusalem Center for Bible Translators (JCBT) and, since 2019, Jerusalem Seminary’s School of Hebrew (JS-SoH), has been offering a two year program in three parts for consultants who are working full-time. Year 1 is taught online 2 hours/week by JS-SoH teachers (https://jerusalemseminary.org/soh-en/) with an expected minimum of 4 hours/week of prep. This runs October-July and leads to an intensive four-week course during August in Jerusalem in partnership with JCBT and JS-SoH. This course includes 120 academic hours of communicative Biblical Hebrew plus nine days of field trips, thus combining internalized Hebrew with experiencing the Land of the Bible first-hand. Following the August course is Year 2, in which we meet 1.5 hours/week from October-June for a more traditional approach focusing on Verbal System, Textual Criticism, Text Hierarchy, Masoretic Accent System, and Poetry taught by OT specialists from SC and SIL. There is also a focus on reviewing vocabulary and reading texts together. For more information on our NT2OT Program, write bob_carter@tsco.org.
