I would like to let you know that there is a new. more usable and -- I think -- handsome new website design for the TIPs tool at https://tips.translation.bible. Please feel free and check it out.
It's a truly large project now. We have data for every single verse of the Protestant, Catholic and (most) Orthodox canons with close to 50,000 entries (some of which comprise many pages -- such as https://tips.translation.bible/story/yhwh/ or https://tips.translation.bible/story/jesus/) and we have records on more than 900 languages. Here are also some newish developments that might catch you up with what's happening:
- We have more or less finished and included a very, very large Japanese honorifics project. There are tens of thousands of reference points throughout the Bible. You can see one example here: https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/1cor-153/ (Honorary are / rare constructs denoting God (“die”)). Usually, the entries are grouped towards the end of each verse listing to not overwhelm the reader and not emphasize Japanese too much (for your sake I put this particularly one up higher). The careful user can now essentially read the Bible through the eyes of an East Asian honorifics system. I’m so glad that we have this now and think this is a tremendous contribution to the project.
- I have spent a lot of time with Sign Languages recently (thanks to Phil King and many others), most importantly Russian, Mexican, Spanish and Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). For Russian SL all of Mark is in the process of being back-translated to English (presently up to chapter 5 -- see https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/mark-51/ et al.) , for Mexican SL I have back-translations of a number of books that I still need to process (right now we only have Philemon entered: https://tips.translation.bible/story/philemon-11-3-in-mexican-sign-language/) and for Libras there are translation for every name in the New Testament -- often with links to more information about the characters and/or places (see https://tips.translation.bible/tip_language/bzs/ et al.)
- We have entered introductions for each biblical book. For the Protestant canon we've used the ones from PBT (see https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/1cor-10-introduction/ et al.) and for the DC books the UBS Handbooks (see https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/sir-10/ et al.) We would be eager to enter more as long as they are translation-related
- One of the most if not the most fruitful sources of data are Notes in past of current Paratext projects. I have worked through a number of them and would be so thankful if you could make me an observer in some of your projects as well so I can include relevant data from those as well.
Please let me know what we should do to make this tool more helpful to you.
