I’m so glad to report that we have the first couple of books of the Ethiopian Tewahedo canon in TIPs. You can find Enoch right here: https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/en-1-1/ (and you can click yourself through all remaining verses) and 4 Baruch here: https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/4bar-1-1/. This was a big lift between permissions and aligning the English to the current Ge’ez text (which is different in both versification and editorial state) but I was finally able to find the right people to help me and while there is a lot to do even with these two books, they overall look good (I hope).

We don’t only list the books but we also integrate them very deeply. If you scroll down https://tips.translation.bible/tip_verse/en-1-1/ for instance you can see that the titles’ tooltips now include the Ge’ez text of the word or phrase in question, the text in each of the stories mentions Ge’ez as a source language and the referenced verses list the Tewahedo verses along all others (see for instance https://tips.translation.bible/story/vision/ and all the references to “EN…”). It is of course true that these books are not widely known and are only used by one (or two) confessions  worldwide – for that reason I added that note with some explanations at the verse level before all other records (“The Book of Enoch” etc.). Again, there is going to be a lot more interlinking etc., plus some fixes in the text, but I'm glad that we were able to do this to represent the whole of the worldwide church.

The next Tewahedo book is going to be Jubilees (which is essentially a retelling of Genesis and Exodus with some twists) – I think we should be able to add that this month or next. What would be missing then are the three Meqabyan books (the Ethiopian Maccabees). I’m not sure how or when this will happen, but it would of course be great to see that work out in some way.

Happy Advent!
